- 2: Now start to heat up the oil. Pleae be at least 10 feet from your house. Only fill the container to about a fifth of the way. (remember that if you need more oil u can add more AFTER the bird is dropped into the oil) if you have too much oil it will splash out and not only burn u but the entire house as well. Be careful!! drop the bird in very slowly. Peanut oil is the most popular, but, its very expensive! vegtable or canola oil will do just fine.
- 3: preheat the oil to 350. if you have a temprature regulator that's fine but if not you will have to do it yourself. Once the oil reaches 350 turn off the flame until you drop the bird in. Once the bird is in the temp should drop to below 300. this is a perfect temp to maintain while the bird is cooking.
- 4: WARNING!!!! the first time the bird goes in it will cause a violent erupion with the oil because of the hot oil and the turkey juices. this is why u do not start with a lot of oil and because of displacment. The oil will eventually calm down and then you can see how much more oil you need. Make sure the turkey is fully imersed under the oil if possible..
- 5: cook the bird for 3 min per pound. Use a thermometer to check that the bird has reached 165. check the bird in several different places to make sure the bird is done.
- 6: TURN OFF THE FRYER!!!!! don't forget and also pull the bird out of the hot oil (DUHHH) don't drip oil all over the place also (AGAIN DUHHHHH).
- 7: cover the bird with foil and let it sit for 30 min.
- 8: carve the bird and enjoy a juicy tender bird.
